abstract="Questionnaires were sent to 35 patients who were blind as a result of diabetic retinopathy, to elicit their suggestions for ways in which medical institutions and physicians could better meet their needs. Approximately 75% of the patients understood their physician's explanation regarding their prognosis and confided in their physicians when blindness occurred. However, 29% of these patients stated that they had considered suicide after they became blind, and all of them had left their jobs. Patients responded that they would appreciate being able to receive high-quality medical care and vision rehabilitation at a single facility. As a result of these responses, last year we started an outpatient clinic for vision rehabilitation.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
