abstract="Nakata, a criminological psychiatrist, introduced Weber's paper and defined indirekt order mittelbarer Selbstmord as the follows. 'Indirect suicide is to commit a serious crime with the intention of receiving a death sentence instead of direct suicide.' We performed a psychiatric evidence in a criminal suspect of a bus hijacking (suspicion of arrest and confinement, compulsion, and violation of the firearms and swords control law) regarded as indirect suicide in a narrow sense that has been considered to be specific and rare. He attempted suicide a few times due to despair, resulting from a secluded life for about 5 years, but he did not have the courage to die. About 8 months before the criminal act, he watched a bus hijacking in Russia on TV and decided to hijack a bus with the intention of receiving a death sentence. When 2 cases regarded as indirect suicide in the records of criminal history are taken into consideration, it is highly possible that hijacking of vehicles is used as indirect suicide.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
