abstract="A functional bilateral arm prosthesis had been developed for a 26-year-old psychiatric patient with a bilateral transhumeral amputation with short stumps. Because her serious psychiatric condition did not allow intensive training and visiting an outpatient rehabilitation facility, myoelectric controls could not be used. The device was not designed to restore the anatomy of the arm, but to partially restore functionality. Where commercially available components could not meet the requirements, custom-made components were used. The prosthesis enables the patient to eat independently and to practise her hobby of painting.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
