abstract="Newer publications about psychiatric in-patient suicide discuss the so-called &quot;increase hypothesis&quot; of suicide of mentally ill in-patients controversially. In our study of in-patient suicides of the Bezirkskrankenhaus Bayreuth, a state mental hospital for adult psychiatry, the number of suicides and suicide rate over 25 years 1979 - 2000 did not show any increase.
