abstract="Many psychoanalysts have written on the appearance of undisguised dreams of the analyst in the course of treatment. Reasons for the appearance of these dreams have ranged from a breach in analytic neutrality to a degree of difficulty in symbolisation. It is clear from reviewing the literature that there is no one single cause for these dreams but that nevertheless they are an important event in the course of treatment. In the case described there was a difficulty in symbolisation leading to a serious clinical impasse which was gradually resolved through an oscillation in the therapy which led to a differentiation of the?me?and?not me?. Such a sign of change in the patient's analysis was denoted by the appearance of the undisguised analyst dream, re. the use of the analyst as a dream symbol.<p />",
