abstract="This article constitutes a synthesis of an evaluative research realized by investigators of Centro Latino-Americano de Estudos sobre Violência e Saúde of Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública, Instituto Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazilian Ministry of Health, about the implantation and implementation of the Reduction Program on Mortality and Morbidity in Transit Accident, in five Brazilian capitals – Recife, Belo Horizonte, Goiânia, São Paulo, and Curitiba – during 2003 and 2004. The evaluation finished in 2006. It presents and discusses epidemiological data, information system, and indicators of process and results. The results point out: absence of tradition in intersectorial work; short visibility of the problem of traffic accident; frequent change of the managers and coordination; political interventions in the projects. Among the principals factors of success, are cited: anterior experience in treat the problem; intersectorial integration; capacity to give visibility to the theme; production of a kit of indicators and methodology for evaluating the Program.",
