abstract="<p>In 2000, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with technical assistance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), initiated the project to establish injury surveillance systems in EDs with the goal of advancing injury epidemiology and prevention capacity in Latin America. Colombia, El Salvador, and Nicaragua were selected for the initial pilot surveillance systems, which were designed to enhance the ability of select hospitals to monitor injury trends and promote appropriate prevention interventions. The project also sought to increase injury awareness among health officials and personnel from other agencies.<p /> <p>Language: en / Spa</p>",
