abstract="Wisconsin adopted in 1973, essentially word-for-word, the United States Department of Transportation commercial driver standards as the medical standards for school bus operation. This resulted in a wide variance in the interpretation of this standard by the examining physicians, sometimes with very questionable certification -- examples are cited. The standards for cardiac conditions were reviewed in depth and detailed guidelines for interpretation of the standard have been developed. These guidelines are presented, along with a more detailed exploration of the rationale.<p />",
