abstract="Data obtained from existing hospital and police records are used to describe the general pattern of injury sustained by pedestrians. It is shown that although head, leg and arm injuries are the most frequent injuries sustained the exact pattern of injury is influenced by many factors. In particular pedestrian age, vehicle type, location of initial pedestrian contact with the vehicle and overall injury severity are shown to influence the injuries sustained. The severity of the injuries considered in describing the pattern of injury is also shown to have an effect on the pattern of injury.<p />",
