abstract="The primary objectives of this study was to analyze data on fatal motor vehicle crashes in Kuwait with a view to discovering important epidemiological factors amendable to prevention, and to make a contribution from a developing country to the international literature on the subject which is almost all dominated by developed countries.  The epidemiology of all fatal motor vehicle crashes that occurred in Kuwait between January 1, 1977 and December 31, 1978 have been analyzed. This two-year series, which includes 726 fatal crashes and represents 1.7 percent of all types of crashes, resulted in 803 deaths (7.3 percent of the national death toll) and 1975 injuries.  The death rate per 100,000 population was 37 in 1977 and 32 in 1978.  Using international comparison motor vehicle death rates reveals that the use of the road in Kuwait is significantly more dangerous than in some industrialized countries, thus ranking motor vehicle crashes among the four leading causes of death.
