abstract="The choice of test animal obviously depends on many factors-subject position, harness, size and weight limitations, test equipment available, need for performance decrement testing, cost, etc. In general it can be concluded that:  a. Sophisticated test program requiring both performance and proper weight distribution-chimpanzee. He is an excellent composite subject for preceding man into a previously unexplored and potentially hazardous area.  b. Anatomical and physiological results sought-American Black Bear.  c. Small animal size dictated by test equipment-dog.  d. Swine-Isolated studies of various visceral components. As an example, specific studies of trauma to the liver or kidneys can be done.<p />",
