DESIGN: Diagnosis, outcome, associated injuries, and treatment are discussed. METHODS: A high index of suspicion is required to make the diagnosis; no single diagnostic test can be used as a screening tool. CONCLUSION: Once recognized, treatment of pericardial rupture is relatively simple.
