%X The utility of psychiatric symptoms for identifying potential DWI recidivists was examined. Results indicated that psychiatric symptoms were more related to whether the individual would have qualified for a DSM-III-R alcohol dependent diagnosis than to offender status. A second finding of importance was the high rate of alcohol dependence found for the first-time offenders. The implications for these findings are discussed in this report.
