%X The purpose of this study was to implement an eight-week leadership training program to increase self-efficacy, self-esteem and initiative in beginning center activities, and to improve leadership attitudes and skills among a bi-ethnic group (n = 12) of older adults who attended a senior center. No one, to our knowledge, has attempted a leadership training program at a senior center with a significant percentage of low-income older adults. The majority of our study group consisted of low-income older adults, one-fourth of whom were Hispanic. The results of this program indicate that the participants increased their self-efficacy and initiative in beginning new activities at the senior center, and improved their leadership attitudes and skills.<p />
