%X A primary consideration in leisure and recreation programming in any setting should be the planning and utilization of activities and equipment that are age-appropriate. Only recently, long term care professionals have begun to debate the issue of what is "age-appropriate" for residents. Age-appropriate activities are those that reflect the personalities, attitudes, and interests of a particular generational group. In order to establish guidelines for age-appropriate activities in long term care, professionals must understand the importance of the following: accurate and comprehensive assessments, individualized activity programs, age-cohort factors, opportunities for creativity and challenge, communication with residents, adaptations, and documentation.<p />
