%X Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, irreversible neurological disorder that robs individuals of their cognitive and functional capabilities. The basic principles of bioethics, beneficence, autonomy and paternalism, and justice, provide the framework for understanding the issues and situations that challenge family caregivers as they make decisions that influence the well-being of their loved ones. Practitioners can play an active role in helping caregivers effectively negotiate within and between these ethical constructs as they provide care for their family members.<p />
