%X In order to reduce accidents due to drunken driving more information is needed. It is important to point out that alcohol impairment occurs with relatively small intake, causing tunneling of vision, slowing of colour discrimination and of reaction times, and delaying recovery from glare. Questionnaires were sent out with driving licence renewal notices in order to find out the attitudes of drivers. One question dealt with major causes of accidents. A majority considered it to be excessive speed, drunken driving and disregard of road rules. The choice of the three most effective preventive measures put licence suspension in the first place, followed closely by education and refresher courses. Treatment programmes and educational campaigns are also dealt with in this paper. (TRRL)<p />
