%X This paper analyzes jaywalking, as opposed to the use of footbridges, as an issue in road safety studies. The Haddon matrix is used as a theoretical reference. For the statistical analysis, sociological, transport and road aspects are considered. Results show that: i) religious denomination is the only sociological variable explaining the use of footbridges; ii) all Haddon matrix dimensions are statistically significant; and iii) the environmental dimension has the strongest effect, followed by the vehicle and human ones respectively.<p />
