%X This paper describes, with illustrative case histories drawn from the author's own experience, the dependence of police on the forensic scientist in the investigation of sexual offences. Often faced with a lack of direct evidence, the police turn to the scientist to supply the missing links and to investigate the accuracy of the complainer's, or suspect's statement.<p />
