%X Safety analysis of chemical processes requires the application of techniques which are able to evaluate potentially dangerous transient conditions together with the reliability of mitigating and protective systems. For this end, after a short review of available computer-aided methods for systems reliability assessment, the DYLAM technique is proved to be a more adequate tool than the normally used fault trees/event trees. The case study presented has been already utilized in past literature; therefore it constitutes a good basis for discussing the advantages and limitations of the proposed approach.<p />
