%X This paper provides a sociological account of allegations of child abuse and ritual abuse in a child care center. It synthesises insights from the sociology of health, deviance, and religion. Taking as its point of departure the argument that social problems are socially constructed it shows how deviance is being redevined in late capitalist societies, with the medical profesion loosing its prominence as the main agent of social control.<p />
