%X Selective vagotomy leads to a transitory time lag in ethanol absorption since the more or less atonic stomach functions as a reservoir. In the early postoperative phase, therefore, the course of the blood ethanol curve shows a plateau. In the later postoperative course, general normalization of absorption is to be expected. Follow-up examinations of two patients confirmed that ethanol absorption takes place primarily in the small intestine and that gastric motility and tone appreciably influence the absorption rate.<p />
