%0 Journal Article %T Effect of ethanol on intraocular pressure %J Blutalkohol %D 1975 %A Schneider, Victoria %A Jahnke, R %V 12 %N 1 %P 13-23 %X Thirty three test persons in three groups were given spirits, spirits and beer, or only beer to drink. The amount of alcohol amounted to 1 g per kg of body weight. At half hour intervals, blood samples were taken and eye pressure measured. An increase in median pressure could not be proved. Instead, a slight decrease because of the alcohol, was apparently the case. However, the individual differences in pressure as compared with the values measured before the consumption of alcohol fluctuated so much that it was impossible to guarantee the statistical results. According to the author's own results and information in the literature it seems at any rate unlikely that a low amount of alcohol could result in an acute attack of glaucoma.
