%X Characteristics of serious fires that have occurred in recent years at large marketplace buildings are analyzed in this paper. On the basis of the analysis, a fire risk assessment system for marketplace buildings has been established and this approach turns out to be fruitful after it has been applied to some large marketplaces in Shanghai. This approach can provide decision-making basis and technical reference for the safety management of fire control of relevant departments and specifications and improve the overall fire safety of marketplaces.<p />
