%X This research tested a model that integrates risk factors among NSSI and eating disorder (ED) behaviors to elucidate possible shared and unique mechanisms underlying both behaviors. Emotional distress, limited access to emotion regulation (ER) strategies, avoidance, and NSSI/ED frequency were examined in a sample of 230 female undergraduates. Structural equation modeling indicated that emotional distress had direct and positive associations with limited access to ER strategies and avoidance, and limited access to ER strategies mediated the relationship between emotional distress and avoidance. Avoidance had direct and positive associations with NSSI and ED. There were significant indirect effects of emotional distress on NSSI and ED.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
