%X The report provides a reference to the basic concepts of physics and the biomechanics necessary to the understanding of the mechanism of injury in abusive head trauma. Specific attention is given to the whiplash shaken-infant syndrome and shaken-impact models of abusive head trauma. The mechanical implications of falls from low heights are analyzed. The concluding section highlights unresolved problems in our understanding of these injuries and provides direction for future research.<p />
