%X The primary aim of the work described in this paper was to examine the distributions of vehicle speeds on single- and dual-carriageway curves with radii of less than 500 meters. Speed data were collected at a series of road curves on the approaches to, and at geometric entries and middle and exit points of, these curves. Distinction was also made between passenger cars and goods vehicles. Vehicle speed distributions for both types of vehicle at the measurement locations were not found to be statistically different from the normal distribution. The pattern of variation in vehicle speeds along a road curve was found to be highly dependent on the level of curvature, this effect being more pronounced for curves of radius less than 250 meters.
