Most of the college students were found to be moderately or severely depressed. It was also found that males and females differ significantly in experiencing depression. Males scored higher than females on depression. Suicide ideators scored higher than non ideators on this dimension. Insignificant main effect of gender and group was found on religiosity. It is important to note that both suicide ideators and non ideators met the criteria for moderate to severe depression. The civil strife has instilled fear, insecurity, and uncertainty leading to an intense feeling of frustration and despair among young people which in turn leads to depression and suicides. © Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.
