%X This paper takes the view that the findings and methodologies of experiments seeking to test the effectiveness of social work are too little known and understood. Now is a particularly good time to attempt to remedy this since a new generation of studies is available showing results which, in contrast to those earlier times, are largely positive. A comparison between these first and second wave studies is revealing and raises many implications for future research and practice.<p />
