N2  - This paper provides an overview of the differences in and among ethnic and racial subgroups of the U.S. population and the intersections of these with age, functionality, geography, and so forth. The focus is on system demand, but, suggests some workforce and safety implications. Where racial and ethnic minorities experience lack of access and mobility due to geographic isolation, income, and limited mental and physical functionality, adverse health outcomes may be anticipated. Transport's role in increasing access and mobility may aid in offsetting or mitigating these adverse effects. The survey of conditions among racial and ethnic minorities suggests that greater investments in pedestrian and bicycle facilities and human service and public transport may serve to mitigate some of the conditions. These considerations are critical given the aging and "browning" of the U.S. population.<p />
