TY - JOUR PY - 2007// TI - Road Accidents in Great Britain Since 1985 JO - IATSS research A1 - Broughton, J. SP - 108 EP - 109 VL - 31 IS - 2 N2 - This paper gives a 10 year overview of the state of road accidents in Great Britain between 1995 and 2005. Casualty severity on these roadways is ranked by the following terms- fatal, serious, and slight. Announced in 1987, Great Britain has set an aim for reduction in traffic casualties by one third by the year 2000. Researchers found that this goal was met with a fatal crash reduction of 39 percent in the time frame given as well as a 49 percent reduction in serious crashes. A target for 2010 was announced in that year with the following aims: 10 percent further reduction in slight casualty, 50 percent reduction in child fatalities, and a 40 percent reduction in serious or fatal casualties. Between 2000 and 2005, authors note, there have been positive steps towards this end.
