N2 - In direct observations of Jewish families in Israel, mothers of Oriental origin were found to engage in fewer of the child-rearing practices accepted as "normal" by Western social scientists than did mothers of Western origin. Greater degrees of "compulsive" and "disorganized" behavior were observed among the Oriental mothers. Differences are explained as due to cultural and educational background, and implications for the emotional development of the children are considered.

Language: en
