TY - JOUR PY - 1981// TI - Waterslide injuries JO - Annals of emergency medicine A1 - Malpass, C. A. Jr A1 - Schuman, Stanley H. A1 - Sobczyk, R. SP - 360 EP - 363 VL - 10 IS - 7 N2 - As recreational waterslides become more popular, an increasing number of riders will experience injuries. Sixty-one consecutive patient charts obtained form two different sources reveal distinct patterns. Riders have sustained lacerations (53%), contusions or abrasions (25%), fractured bones (7%), sprains (7%), fractured teeth (6%), and concussions (3%). Most frequently injured are head-first position. The ratio of fiberglass slide injuries to concrete slide injuries is 12:1 in our series. The potential for waterslide injuries is underestimated by physicians and dentists until a flurry of cases occur in the community. Epidemiologic study is needed to develop accurate rates of incidence, severity, and levels of risks by type of waterslide construction. LA - SN - 0196-0644 UR - http://dx.doi.org/ ID - ref1 ER -
