The frequency of these accidents has not increased over the past ten years, and these accidents, resulting in paraplegia, only account for 7.3% of a population of one thousand spinal cord injuries. The victims are mainly young men, and the principal cause is diving. Tetraplegia predominates, and recovery is highly improbable.
