N2  - The inspection process has its counterpart in other areas of safety, namely, automobile safety, airplane safety, truck safety, structural safety, and the like. That we are less than pleased with the results in measures of workplace safety performance during the last decade and a half is not a reason to forsake the inspection process. There are ways to greatly improve the inspection process. The current dialogue should focus on extensions and improvements of inspections rather than relieving regulates of the inspection experience.
