N2  - In critiquing my 1984 article, “Police Responses to Wife Beating: Neglect of a Crime of Violence,” Alfred Choi made some serious blunders that are detailed in this response. Specific comments indicating that the data from the study should have been viewed as “preliminary” were ignored, and material from my article was repeatedly misquoted. Issues worthy of limited debate were overshadowed by those blatant errors. Mr. Choi's untimely critique does, however, draw attention to the impressive advances in research and policy development that were anticipated by the exploratory research reported in my article half a decade ago.<p />
