Different factors such as the consumption of alcohol or drugs, unemployment, social maladjustment and poverty are responsible of its worrisome increase in incidence over the last years. This article describes the type and incidence of major facial lesions due to interpersonal violence treated at the Division of Maxillofacial surgery of the CHUV in Lausanne during 1992, and compares it with the series of cases treated ten years later, during 2001.
