One hundred and nine suicide survivors and 128 informants of community controls were investigated in this study to explore how Chinese suicide survivors were affected by the suicide deaths. Variables measured in the survey included demographic status, mental health status, personality, etc. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed in data analyses to explore possible influencing factors for depression among Chinese suicide survivors. 'Lived with suicide victim' was found to be the most important influencing factor. Suicide survivors were more depressed than general populations but the characteristics of Chinese suicide survivors were still not clear. Interventions for Chinese suicide survivors are essential, but before that more research is needed to get a comprehensive understanding of Chinese suicide survivors.
