TY - JOUR PY - 2010// TI - Scorpion envenomation in Argentina JO - Archivos Argentinos de Pediatria A1 - Parma, Julieta Alvarez A1 - Palladino, Claudia M. SP - 161 EP - 167 VL - 108 IS - 2 N2 - In Argentina, scorpion poisoning is an entity with high morbidity and mortality mainly produced by Tityus trivitatus sting. This species is distributed all around the center and north of the country. Clinical manifestations range from local pain and paresthesia to multisystemic failure followed by death. Diagnosis is done by recognizing clinical features, and is reinforced by the history of a sting and the identification of the scorpion. Specifc treatment is antitoxic serum. We strongly recommend preventive measures to keep scorpions far from building areas. At present, a new species, Tityus confluens, arouses in association with lethal events.
