TY - JOUR PY - 1994// TI - Traumatic injuries to the extremities and thorax JO - Clinics in sports medicine A1 - Lofthouse, G. A. SP - 113 EP - 135 VL - 13 IS - 1 N2 - Although commonly ascribed great health benefits, bicycling is a dangerous activity. Specific populations have different risks and, hence, different injury patterns. Following a critical review of cycling literature, an anatomic survey is made of injuries resulting from traumatic events. Current ranges of therapies are discussed and cautions regarding clinical pitfalls are posted. I have made a series of recommendations that I hope will produce a safer environment for future healthy growth in which cycling may continue to furnish economic travel, pleasure, and health to future generations.
