N2  - Resolution 2 (Annual Meeting 1985), which was referred to the Board of Trustees, asked the American Medical Association to urge government officials to require all new residential and nonresidential buildings to be equipped with rapid-response automatic water sprinklers and smoke detectors and to require their installation in existing high-rise buildings within three years unless existing code requirements are more stringent. This response to the resolution is a summary of the literature up to June 1986.
