TY - JOUR PY - 1986// TI - A Humanistic Approach to Old-Old People: A General Model JO - Activities, adaptation and aging A1 - Babins, Leonard H. SP - 57 EP - 63 VL - 8 IS - 3 N2 - The present article is designed to provide an overview of Validation Therapy. The purpose of this approach is to validate the uniqueness of Old-Old (80 years and older) disoriented residents, helping them regain their sense of dignity and self-worth without being judgmental. This approach was discussed in terms of two underlying principles. The first is that early emotional learning is retained in Old-Old persons despite cognitive deterioration. The second principle is based on Erik Erikson's Life Stages. It was suggested that Validation Therapy is a promising approach with disoriented elderly. Finally, further research in this area is needed and encouraged.
