A working knowledge of counseling psychology contributes to an understanding of the psychological needs and problems of this population. By utilizing suitable short-term, growth-oriented counseling strategies in conjunction with therapeutic recreational activities, the recreation therapist can significantly improve the psychosocia1 functioning of their clients.
