N2  - Traumatic life changes such as institutionalization may result in declining health and a preoccupation with illness for many elderly persons. Adapting the milieu can have some positive implications for the residents and staff in a nursing home environment. By effectively utilizing the milieu, we place higher expectations on the residents to interact socially and to become more functionally independent, thus enhancing the quality of life for our institutionalized elderly.<p />
