N2  - Our results show that alcohol is an important factor as regards the risk of traffic accidents as well as traffic offences. Generally, 51.9% of drivers involved in traffic accidents had been found to have ingested alcohol. This thus confirms the link between alcohol intake and road safety. A direct relationship between the blood alcohol level and impairment of driving skill can obviously be seen in this study. erratic behavior in driving can be observed in terms of incidence of road accidents and traffic offences related to alcohol intake. The dangerous effects of alcohol and driving safety can be decreased by the establishment of a legal blood-alcohol level and observation of strict control. Penalties placed upon drivers affected by alcohol vary from one country to another. In Turkey, we intend to set a legal blood alcohol limit as a form of traffic law enforcement. Taking even a trace quantity of alcohol was formerly strictly prohibited. In our study, as has been observed, the case incidence increased significantly above 1.0 per mille blood-alcohol. Thus we can recommend the legal limit of 0.5 per mille as a safety measure.<p />
