N2  - Objective: This paper presents two cases of elderly pedestrians who suffered severe lower limb injuries which resulted in their deaths. Methods: Case notes of the two victims were examined. Results: Two elderly pedestrians suffered fatal injuries when they were hit by slow moving dust carts (Dust Compressing Vehicle). Conclusions: These cases highlight the potential problems with dust carts working in residental areas. We recommend that manufacturers need to improve the all-round visibility of dust carts and the public needs to be made aware of the potential threat in particular to the elderly and children in the residential setting. We believe that these are the first reported cases in the medical literature, although such injuries have been reported by the U.K. Department of Transport.<p />
