N2  - Objective: Personality factors play a central role in road accident determinism. This paper outlines some of the results of a survey that was carried on from 1995 to 1999 in Italy. Methods: The Rorschach psychodiagnostic test was administered to 282 drivers that were involved in car accidents in a well-defined geographical area near Naples. Since each accident was analyzed on the road by a group of experts, for each driver it was possible to know if he/she determined the accident or just met with it. Finally a group of control drivers (n=75) that have not been involved in any car accident over the past five years was created (matched for age and sex with the experimental group). Results: Results of personality analysis showed significant differences between determinative drivers and non-determinative drivers that regarded both emotional control and intelligence. Conclusion: Results of the present study can be useful to psychologists and educators who have to design more incisive campaigns and programs for road safety promotion.<p />
