TY - JOUR PY - 2010// TI - Injury prevention: Role of the hospital-based Child Passenger Safety Program (CPSP) JO - Journal of the arkansas medical society A1 - Palmer, Kristine G. A1 - Mowery, Betsey SP - 135 EP - 138 VL - 107 IS - 7 N2 - Motor vehicle crashes (MVC) are the leading cause of death for people 3 to 34 years of age. Despite evidence that child safety seats (CSS) reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants (< 1 year of age) and by 54% for toddlers (1-4 years of age) in passenger cars, 48% of the 23 Arkansas children under age 16 that died in 2007 were unrestrained. We review the goals of a hospital-based CPSP, briefly review one American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Policy Statement, describe how one CPSP functions, and provide resources to those interested in program development.
