A1 - Webber, GMB SP - 293 EP - 303 VL - 14 IS - 4 N2 - Glass in doors and windows is amongst the more common building features involved in accidents on domestic premises, perhaps accounting for 16,000 non-fatal events reported to hospital Accident and Emergency Departments in England and Wales each year. This article reports on an analysis of recent statistical information and a small scale site survey undertaken to investigate glazing accidents in greater depth. Some typical accidents and the doors and windows involved are described and some behavioural and anthropometric considerations are identified which designers might take into account when specifying materials in areas of risk.
