TY - JOUR PY - 2010// TI - Investigation of Concrete Cracking Effect in Deck Slab of Continuous Bridges JO - Baltic journal of road and bridge engineering A1 - Gribniak, Viktor A1 - Kaklauskas, Gintaris A1 - Čygas, Donatus A1 - Bacinskas, Darius A1 - Kupliauskas, Rimantas A1 - Sokolov, Aleksandr SP - 83 EP - 88 VL - 5 IS - 2 N2 - This article reports on a study of the concrete cracking in deck slabs on continuous bridges. The authors focus on two main factors: the influence of cracking on serviceability of the structures and the inelastic behavior of the structural elements. Their study investigates the cracking behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) decks of continuous bridges over intermediate supports. These sections behave almost as pure tension ties, allowing for mathematical modeling of the deck based on test data of RC tensile members. The authors present different mathematical and semi-analytical techniques for crack controlling, including a two-dimensional finite element (FE) model (using the ATENA software), a layer section model, and tensile tests. They conclude that all the calculation techniques can be used for both deformational and crack width analysis.
